About Western
The University of Western Ontario was founded in 1878.
Over the decades, Western has grown in reputation and
size to become an internationally significant teaching
and research institution with a population of over 33,000 students, including approximately 2,200 international students from more than 120 countries.
Today, Western provides the best student experience
among Canada’s research-intensive universities. At
Western, you have the luxury of choosing from over 300 academic programs and more than 2,000 courses across
12 faculties and three Affiliated University Colleges. Your learning does not stop once you step out of class, you’ll
also benefit from membership in a community that fosters leadership and personal growth.
An International Leader in Teaching
and Research
As you’d expect of a university dedicated to
excellence in teaching and research, you will learn
from professors who are at the forefront of research
in their particular fields.
Dedicated to Research
Thanks to close relationships with the public and private
sectors, Western is undergoing a true renaissance in
the establishment of cutting-edge research facilities.
One of these is the Biotron, a research facility that
allows for the reconstruction of entire ecosystems
within a controlled environment. Scientists from a broad
range of disciplines – including environmental science,
agriculture, medicine and engineering – will be able to
conduct collaborative experiments.
