The focus of health care in the future is on the
prevention of chronic illness and disease. The
BHSc program provides an ideal opportunity
to understand the pitfalls and positives in our
current view of health so that you may look to
the future with the tools to make a difference.
You can study the full spectrum of life – from
preventing childhood obesity to helping the
aging population increase mobility. Classes cover
challenging ethical issues such as euthanasia,
stem cell research, cloning, the media’s impact on
body image, and the genetics of substance abuse.
Explore how to best approach promoting health
and improving health care with our engaging and
dedicated professors.
The BHSc program is offered within the Faculty
of Health Sciences’ School of Health Studies and
students have the flexibility to study a broad
range of interdisciplinary health-related research.
Opportunities for one-on-one research or practicum
placements for course credit in year four are
excellent options for students to apply theories
and consolidate learning. Our program is home
to the first 3-D anatomy classroom in Canada.

Community Rural Health Development

The Community Rural Health Development Program is offered jointly by the School of Health Studies and Brescia University College. This program builds upon the strengths in the study of rural health and sociology of the living community to give students a solid foundation in both areas.

Foods and Nutrition

The Minor in Foods & Nutrition complements the
healthy lifestyle focus of this degree program. The
Minor in Foods & Nutrition allows students to further
explore: nutrition through the life cycle, principles of
food science, clinical nutrition, fundamentals of community nutrition, etc. This program is offered through
Brescia University College.

 

Health Promotion

What factors actually influence your health and that of communities?  Health promotion is a multidimensional field that requires a breadth of in the interdisciplinary fields of health. Health promotion will provide students with the theories to look at issues surrounding health behaviour. This module will develop your skills and provide you with a practical opportunity to apply your knowledge to improve health and chnage behaviour.

 

Health Sciences with Biology

Students who are interested in both Biological Sciences and Health Sciences may combine these fields in a structured program.

Rehabilitation Sciences

Explore the theories underlying rehabilitation of children and adults. Students will study the impact and effects of mental illness, disease and health conditions, and physical disabilities. This is an ideal program for students interested in entering rehabilitation programs and working with people who have special needs. Students may have a practical opportunity to apply their knowledge in a rehab environment in year four.
